RICS AI standard: key dates and the quarterly review calendar
When the RICS AI standard came into force, what recurs quarterly, and a free .ics calendar file that puts the risk-register reviews in your Outlook or Google Calendar.
| September 2025 | The professional standard “Responsible use of artificial intelligence in surveying practice” is published by RICS. |
|---|---|
| 9 March 2026 | The standard takes effect. From this date its requirements are mandatory for RICS members and regulated firms — registers, policies, due diligence, client notices, output reviews. |
| ≈ 9 June 2026 | First quarterly review of the AI risk register due, for firms that stood up their register at the effective date (the standard requires review at least quarterly). |
| ≈ 9 September 2026 | Second quarterly review due. Also a sensible moment to re-check systems-register review dates and chase unanswered due-diligence letters. |
| ≈ 9 December 2026 | Third quarterly review due — and year-end is a natural point to re-read the policy against what the firm actually did. |
| Ongoing | Per instruction: materiality decisions recorded; client notices in writing, in advance, where use is material; written reliability decisions on material outputs; dip samples for high-volume use. |
Quarterly AI review calendar (.ics — adds a recurring reminder to Outlook / Google Calendar). One recurring event, every three months, with a one-week reminder — adjust the start date to your firm's own cycle.
The quarterly dates above assume a review cycle anchored to the effective date — anchor yours to whenever your firm actually stood up its register, and diarise from there. Separate from the RICS standard, AI-specific legislation (such as the EU AI Act) applies in some jurisdictions with its own phased dates; where legislation conflicts with the standard, legislation prevails and the conflict must be recorded and reported to RICS.
ComplyQS nudges the quarterly reviews, tool review dates and dip samples automatically — the calendar you never have to maintain.
